Charanjeet Singh Sondhi was second son to Late Gurmukh Singh and Smt Amarjeet Kaur Sondhi. He did his Bachelor’s in Commerce from Bhopal. Despite being a hockey player of state level, Charanjeet Singh had inclination and passion for music right from his school days. This love for music dragged him to many singing competitions during his school and college days, where he won number of titles.
In 1996 Charanjeet Singh won the coveted “Kishore Kumar Award” in Khandwa. Taking this award as an inspiration he set his eyes towards Mumbai, where in 2000 Charanjeet Singh won the Ghazal competition “Bait Baazi” hosted by E T V Urdu.
In 2001 he attended the audition and got selected for his melodious voice in Late Gulshan Kumar’s T-Series music company. The then director of the company Shri Kishan Kumar gave Charanjeet Singh his first break as a Playback Singer in the album “Maa ke Darbar hai Jaana”. In this super-hit album established singers of present like Debashish, Preeti, Pinky, Javed Ali, Soham, Kalpana, Priya Bhattacharya etc. also gave their voice. Later Charanjeet Singh recorded more than 10 religious albums on Shri Ram, Shri Shivji Mata Vaishno Devi etc. along with these singers.
Then came the biggest moment of his musical career when T-Series released Charanjeet Singh’s Solo Bhajan album named “Hey Ganpati Tera Naam Bada” which was a big hit in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Taking into consideration the liking for his voice the popular music company released another album “Sai Baba ki Dhoom” with Charanjeet Singh as one of its singer.
In 2005, T-Series released another hit album “Holi Hits” which had Charanjeet’s song “Main Nikla Rang Leke” which gained wide popularity across the country. In the mean time he also recorded some songs in A R Rehman’s Remix album Vol-1 & 2. Following this Universal Music released a remix album titled “O Hansini” which had songs in Charanjeet’s magical voice.
Being a Sikh it was obvious that Charanjeet Singh will have a passion for Punjabi and the same happened when he got a call from T-Series to record a Punjabi album “Dard”. The song “Puttaan de Dard”, directed by Rupesh Rai Sikhand and lyricised by Sukhraj Singh gathered national and international fame. The highlighting point of this album was that album “Dard” got nominated in the “Punjabi International Award 2006” in the “ Best Debut Category” which was attended by many famous Punjabi Singers from India and abroad.
Another important aspect of this album was the break given by Charanjeet Singh to Rajat Tokas in the video, who is now a hot cake in Bollywood and small screen as Rajat Tokas is acting in the lead role in serials like, Sai Baba, Prithvi Raj Chouhan, Jodha Akbar and Star Plus’serial Tere Liye.
